In this section we publish actual information about the Bulgarian Black Sea ports and their possibilities to proceed and operate with grains, oilseeds, feedstuffs and vegetable oils.
Port of Varna
Port of Varna East is the main gate for Bulgaria’s grain exports. Berth No.7 is the most frequently used berth to accommodate large vessels up to 50,000 GT. During the peak export period, other suitable berths can be used as well (such as Nos. 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12). Loading is carried out mainly by grab. Varna East also has a specialized rail discharging station for grain carrying wagons. The rail wagons are discharged directly into the warehouse No. 6. When pre-loading concentration of cargo is necessary, the warehouses at the Storage Base (5 km away) are also available.
Port terminal Lesport has three berths with total length of 450m. There is a possibility 4 ships to be moored alongside. Maximum draft in the aquatory of Port Lesport is 8.80 m, with fenders – 9.20 m. The total area of the port is 124,000 square meters. The terminal has 2200 sq. m. covered storage area and more than 50 000 sq. m. open storage area.
Port Balchik is the sea gate of Dobrudza, one of the biggest productive regions for grain in Bulgaria. Port Balchik is situated in Balchik Bay, 40 km to the north from Varna. Port terminal Balchik is multipurpose port which is equipped with modern facilities. It is a specialised terminal for handling general cargo, as well, as dry and liquid bulk. The port terminal is operational 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. The major turnover of the port is based on handling bulk cargo, mainly grain. Port terminal Balchik has in disposal two berths with total length 164 m and has a possibility to receive 2 ships at the same time. The maximum allowed draught is 8.0 m. With the usage of the 2 new “Fentek” fenders the safe draught of the terminal could be increased.
MAE port is situated on the north coast of the entrance of Varna Lake canal. It is designed for handling general cargo, bulk cargo and containers. Total length of the quay is 160 m. and the maximum allowed draught is 8. The terminal provides 24-hours ship's service.
Port of Burgas
Port of Burgas as the biggest Bulgarian port offers personal approach to its clients, including services of high quality on every stage of the transportation and the processing of cargo. The existing port facilities provide an opportunity for all types of loose and general cargo, containers and trailers. Load handling operations include loading and unloading of vessels and land means of transport. The Port of Burgas uses multifunctional wharves and specialized terminals and has huge open and covered storage areas with security where different types of cargo can be kept.
KRZ Port Burgas
Loading-discharging services include discharging and loading of floating vessels and land transport vehicles. Warehouse services include preservation of different type cargoes in open and closed warehouse areas of the port with ensured security according to safety requirements. The business strategy is directed to specialization of the port for handling general and grain cargoes.
